THE TEEN SUPPORT PROGRAM

"FAB-PAKS"

KIWANIS DAY BREAKERS IN CO-ORDINATION WITH RSVP OF COLUMBIA COUNTY ARE SETTING UP THE TEEN SUPPORT PROGRAM ESPECIALLY DESIGNED TO SERVE TEENS IN THE COMMUNITY WHO HAVE THE HIGHEST NEEDS AS IDENTIFIED BY THE ST HELENS SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THE INITIAL FOCUS OF THE PROGRAM WILL BE TO PROVIDE PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS [FAB-PAKS] TO TEENS WHO FIT THE PROGRAM'S GUIDELINES.  THE PROGRAM WILL EXPAND AS NECESSARY TO SUPPORT TEENS WITH THE SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES AND HIGHEST NEEDS AS IDENTIFIED BY THE   ST HELENS SCHOOL DISTRICT.  THE PROGRAM WILL BE TOTALLY CONFIDENTIAL IN KEEPING WITH ALL EXISTING GUIDELINES  FOR MINORS.

DAY BREAKERS MEMBER MONICA CADE, WHO IS ALSO THE DIRECTOR OF RSVP OF COLUMBIA COUNTY, CREATED THIS GREATLY NEEDED PROGRAM.

HER IDEA WAS BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE KIWANIS DAY BREAKERS BOARD ON NOVEMBER 5, 2015.  PRESIDENT JOE CORSIGLIA SHARED A WRITTEN OUTLINE OF THE PLAN WITH BOARD MEMBERS, CALLED FOR A DISCUSSION, MOTION AND VOTE. THE PROGRAM WAS UNANIMOUSLY ACCEPTED.

MONICA WILL BE THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE PROGRAM. 

THE ST HELENS SCHOOL DISTRICT ADVISOR/LIAISON WILL BE KRISTI WARD.

COLUMBIA RIVER FIRE & RESCUE, WAS EXTREMELY

GENEROUS WITH DONATIONS TO  

TEEN SUPPORT TO BE USED DURING CHRISTMAS.

 

COATS, CLOTHES, SHOES AND GIFTS OF ALL KINDS

HELPED FILL THE PRESENTS HANDED OUT TO 

LOCAL TEENS.

WORK SESSION FOR THE HOLIDAYS

ITEMS FOR THE TEEN SUPPORT ARE BEING COLLECTED FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON.

WORKING IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ST HELENS SCHOOL DISTRICT RECOMMENDED ITEMS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO STUDENT DETERMINED BY THE DISTRICT. 

A PLANNING MEETINGS ARE SCHEDULED.

ITEMS CHOSEN FOR RECIPIENTS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED BEFORE THE WINTER BREAK.

PLEASE BRING THE FOODS YOU SIGNED UP TO CONTRIBUTE. THEY WILL BE PACKED IN FOOD BAGS.

THE PASTOR STATED THAT  CHURCH MEMBERS HAVE

PLEDGED TO GIVE IN KIND DONATIONS

TO THE PROGRAM.

A PRESENTATION WAS MADE IN RECEIPT OF A $500.00 DONATION TO THE TEEN SUPPORT PROGRAM BY  OWNERS OF A LOCAL TUGBOAT COMPANY.

 HOLIDAY SEASON

 DAY BREAKERS WILL BE COLLECTING FOOD ITEMS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE STUDENTS  FOOD BAGS FOR THE THANKSGIVING BREAK AT THE DAY BREAKERS REGULAR MEETING. THE FOLLOWING DAY IN THE MEETING ROOM AT CRFR OFFICES, CLUB MEMBERS WILL MEET TO ASSEMBLE THE FOOD BAGS. THE FOOD BAGS WILL BE HANDED OUT THE DAY BEFORE THE BREAK.

HELP OUT TEENS IN NEED AT THE HOLIDAYS

PLANNING HAS ALREADY BEGUN TO BE ENSURE TEENS WILL RECEIVE THE SUPPORT NEEDED DURING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON.

TEEN SUPPORT UPDATE

JENNIFER BARTOCCI, ST HELENS SCHOOL DISTRICT SPOKE TO THE DAY BREAKERS AT REGULAR MEETING. 

JENNIFER WILL BE THE HOMELESS TEENS LIASON AT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT SERVING IN THE FEDERAL PROGRAMS AREA.

TEEN SUPPORT REPORT UPDATING THE DEC. 2015 THROUGH SEPT. 2016 ACTIVITY WAS ALSO PRESENTED REVIELING HOW GENEROUS THE COMMUNITY HAS BEEN IN PROVIDING FAB-PAKS, FOOD BAGS, HOLIDAY GIFTS, PEANUT BUTTERGIFTS FOR GRADUATING HOMELESS SENIORS AT BOTH ST HELENS HIGH SCHOOL AND CCEC.   SAFE AND SOBER PARTY ENTRY WAS ALSO PROVIDED.

THE OVERFLOW OF ITEMS DONATED WERE ALSO SHARED WITH THE COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM FOR THE WARMING CENTER IN WHICH TEENS NEEDING SUPPORT HAVE ALSO USED.

THE SCHOOL COAT CLOSETS HAVE ALSO RECEIVED COATS, SCARVES, HATS, BACKPACKS.

THROUGH OUT THE SCHOOL YEAR

FAB-PAKS WILL BE ASSEMBLED AT THE COLUMBIA RIVER FIRE & RESCUE CONFERENCE ROOM. THEY WILL THEN BE TRANSFERRED TO THE ST HELENS SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFICES TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO THE TEENS AS DESIGNATED BY THE DISTRICT.  THIS WILL BE COMPLETED AS NEEDED.

KIWANIS DAY BREAKERS WILL HOLD A FAB-PAK ASSEMBLY WORK SESSION JUNE 2, 2016 AT 3:00 PM AT THE CRFR OFFICES ON COLUMBIA BLVD.

THE GROUP WILL PUT TOGETHER ENOUGH TO HELP OUT 29 STUDENTS, 17 GIRLS AND 12 BOYS.
